DEFENSIVE RIDING & DRIVING TRAINING COURSE

The training shall provide participants with:

• Awareness of traffic accidents and their consequences;
• Understanding and updating Vietnam traffic legislation;
• Awareness of factors causing traffic accidents and how to reduce them;
• Understanding of common situations leading to motorbike/ car accidents and skills and knowledge to respond to effectively;
• Improved knowledge of riding/ driving safely in real transportation conditions of Viet Nam.

A. DEFENSIVE RIDING

Training will be carried out within 01 day, comprising of 0.5 theory day and 0.5 practical day. In order to ensure all the topics in the course content are adequately addressed, it is recommended that the number of participants be limited to 20.

Morning (Theory session):

1. Status of traffic accidents in Vietnam

• Statistical numbers and photos of traffic accidents;
• Factors leading to traffic accidents.

2. Safe riding knowledge and techniques

• Riding from the alley to the main roadside;
• Safe distance from other motorbikes;
• Safe passing;
• Safe turning at intersections;
• Riding at night;
• Blind spot of rear-view mirror;
• Traffic signs;
• Braking, turning around, and balancing skills.

3. Traffic risk identification

• Importance and principle of traffic risk identification;
• Practice on traffic risk identification;
• Practice in identifying dangerous situations.

4. Video clip and discussions

 Afternoon (Practice session):

The practice session includes skill demo, hands-on practice, team contest on the following riding exercises

• Warm up exercise
• Motorbike check before riding
• Demo on specific riding techniques
• Practicing (participants)
  • Emergency braking
  • Riding along circle
  • Riding on narrow road (balancing)
  • Riding on zigzag route
  • Riding on tough road

• Wrap-up & Close out

B. DEFENSIVE DRIVING

Training will be carried out within 01 day comprising of 0.5 theory day and 0.5 practical day. In order to ensure all the topics in the course content are adequately addressed, it is recommended that the number of participants is limited to 25.

• Update Legal requirements in traffic safety for drivers;
• What is defensive driving?
• Preparing the trip

  • Preparing and organizing the journey
  • Checking the vehicle
• During journey
  • Safety distances
  • Anticipating risks

• End of the Journey

 Afternoon (Practice session):

• Driving pre-check
• Driving Practice

• • Limit of ability
  • Zigzag driving
  • Emergency brake technique
  • Applying defensive driving rules

• Defensive driving assessment – (Individual)
• Course close – out and evaluation
