Hazard Identification Study (HAZID) is systematic, multi-disciplinary reviews carried out to determine potential hazards that may arise during operation of a process design, or execution of a work project. Depend on the facility or operation phase that the HAZID focus on, a particular set of Guide Words will be established and agreed by HAZID team prior to the study.

By the end of 2019, SEN conducted 29 HAZID studies.

A Hazard & Operability Study (HAZOP) helps identify and evaluate problems that may represent risks to personnel, equipment or project efficiency. Multi-disciplinary teams focus on specific nodes of the project design during a series of workshops. For each node, the team examines the guide words to methodically ensure that the process is explored in every possible way.

By the end of 2019, SEN conducted 58 HAZOP studies.

According to Vietnam Law, QRA is compulsory in oil and gas, thermal power, petrochemical and chemical industry.

SEN is helping organisation prepare and submit more than 43 QRAs to get approval by the Authorities..

The major objective of process safety management (PSM) is to prevent unwanted releases of hazardous chemicals, particularly in areas that could expose workers and the public to serious hazards. An effective PSM programme requires a systematic approach to identifying, evaluating and managing process hazards.

SEN consultants are industry experts in PSM to share their practical experience and knowledge to provide clients with a pramatic approach to PSM compliance.

SIL Classification will assign SIL targets for safety instrumented functions identified in HAZOP and ensure that there are sufficient layers of protection for the system and decide whether the risk from each individual hazard scenario is at an acceptable level.

SIL Verification calculations have been performed using the exSILentia software Version 2.0 by Exida. This is a tool to determine the SIL rating for each SIF by using Exida database for failure rates of system components. The software also provides for evaluation of architectural constraints to IEC 61508/IEC 61511.

By the end of 2019, SEN conducted 10 SIL reports for offshore and onshore oil and gas clients.

Safety Case is a compulsory document for offshore installation in many countries. In Vietnam, Safety Case is a common practice by leading oil and gas companies.

Safety Case demonstrate that:

• All hazards with potential risk to cause a major accident has been identified, their risk evaluated and measures have been or will be taken to control the risk to statutory and ALARP principle.
• The management system is adequate to ensure compliance with statutory, the company policy and maintain the safety measures.

SEN has recently developed and updated more than 15 Safety Cases both in design and operation phase for offshore installations in Vietnam.

The FERA evaluate the risk of unignited releases of flamable and toxic events, fire and explosion hazard early in the design phase to provide input to decide to the following without impact to a project schedule:

• Layout of main and equipment
• Site layout, including traffic routes and ignition sources
• Compliance with Acceptance Criteria
• Requirement of Safety Barriers such as fire, gas detection, fire wall and etc.

SEN has experience in doing FERA for a member of large oil and gas projects in Vietnam and also oversea.
